Detailed Overview

The S5Xi is the top model in the Signature Series by BH Fitness, featuring the new i.Concept Console. For $2,399, users can enjoy an elliptical/arc trainer with upper front-drive design, specifically designed to reduce impact and stress on joints while simulating a natural, smooth stride. The narrow Q-factor of 1.5 inches means that the pedals are closer together and easier on the knees, and the oversized pedals are equipped with non-slip cushioning for additional joint support, comfort and safety. This model features a fixed stride of 20.5 inches and a low step-on height of 7.75 inches, with both stationary and moving handlebars. This design also boasts an incredibly quiet operation since there are no rollers or rails like traditional elliptical trainers.

With the console, you get the basics that include a water bottle holder and reading rack, but this model lacks a cooling fan and speakers. The display is a 6.5 inch LCD blue back-lit screen that will give the basic workout readouts like time, distance, etc. and offers up to 26 workout programs that include a heart rate program using the contact grip sensors or wireless monitor (strap not included). Users can choose from 24 electronic resistance levels to hit all muscle groups, and the i.Concept console means access to the web and all of your favorite apps and workout programs for even more variety. You can even play games, watch movies or stream music right from your device using the blue tooth wireless connectivity of the i.Concept console.

The S5Xi comes with a residential warranty which covers 1 year on labor, 7 years on parts and lifetime coverage on the frame.

Our Favorite Features

  • i.Concept Console for the ability to link your favorite device right to the trainer using blue tooth connectivity
  • Padded, extra grip moving handlebars are easier to use than traditional handlebars
  • Moving and stationary handlebars (with dual-grip EKG heart rate monitoring on stationary handlebars)
  • Lifetime warranty on frame
  • 7 year warranty on parts
  • 26 workout programs means more variety
  • Unique, ergonomically-sound design for extra comfort and safety

Our Least Favorite Features

  • Non-adjustable features
  • Lower weight capacity of under 350 pounds (average is 350 pounds or greater for a commercial-grade trainer at this price point)
  • No built-in cooling fan
  • No speakers
  • Price to features ratio is not impressive

The Bottom Line

Overall, the pros trump the cons in most areas other than the lack of adjustable features and the price. While $2,399 isn’t bad for a nice, quality trainer like this one, the S3Xi retails for over $1,000 less and it’s not much different. The Signature Series are great elliptical trainers, especially when you consider the capabilities of the i.Concept Console. As a whole, they are a great value but if you choose to go with a model in this series, we suggest either the S1Xi or the S3Xi to save money.
