This Machine is Discontinued

Pros Ideal for someone on a tight budget looking to achieve basic fitness goals, this machine is relatively quiet with a self-propelled motor and basic console to display work out details such as heart rate, time and distance.
Cons This machine lacks some basic comfort and entertainment features such as a fan, audio capabilities, and a backlit LCD display. The EX-57 is also front drive designed, making it uncomfortable for someone with back problems.
Summary Offered as the lowest price point in this series of machines, the Horizon EX-57 features only 9 workout programs and 8 resistance levels, so if you are looking for an advanced trainer, this machine may not be the best fit for you. However, if you looking for a basic machine good for daily exercise, this machine may meet your needs. The front drive design can be personal preference, so make sure this design is also a comfortable option for you.

Horizon EX-57 Elliptical Detailed Overview (Discontinued)

The EX-57 is part of the EX series of elliptical trainers offered by Horizon. As the most basic trainer offered at the lowest price point, the EX-57 is intended for individuals looking to stay active. As far as entertainment features go, this trainer lacks not only advanced but also very basic options. The console is a non-backlit LCD screen that displays basic stats such as distance, time and calories burned. There are no audio or entertainment features and the console is not equipped with a fan. This trainer does offer 9 workout programs and 8 levels of resistance, more than some other trainers offered at this price point. When it comes to the design, frame and durability of the trainer, the frame is steel constructed, durable design with a 14.3 lb. flywheel and operates relatively smoothly and quietly with ECB brakes resistance system. The pedals are also lower and easy to step-on and off of.  However, as a front drive designed machine with the motor in the front rather than the back, some people experience back pain or difficulty in operating the machine.

Our Favorite Features

  • SixStar™ Certified Frame
  • Great price point
  • ECB resistance brakes system for a quiet, smooth experience
  • 1 year warranty on parts and in home labor
  • Self-propelled motor
  • Low step-on height of 9.5”

Our Least Favorite Features

  • Front drive design
  • Non-backlit LCD screen
  • Minimalist console with no entertainment features
  • Handles and cup holder too far away for many
  • No fan
  • Cannot be folded up for easy storage

The Bottom Line

The Horizon EX-57 is ideal for someone looking to maintain their current level of fitness without spending a ton of money on an advanced machine. If you are looking for a machine for advanced training, this machine lacks the number of programs and levels of resistance that may be necessary to achieve advanced fitness goals.  In addition to a lack of monitoring and tracking options, this trainer does not come with any entertainment features, which are a priority for some people who like to listen to music or watch television while working out. Bottom line is that if you are looking to monitor calories and distance, and not much else, this machine will meet your needs for a great price.
